Conference on problem of Armenian Genocide denial in UK held in London

United Kingdom, LondonThe parliamentary group of Armenians of Great Britain (BAAPPG), Armenia Solidarity, The Armenian Genocide Trust and Aegis Trust held a conference titled “Genocide denial and ‘moral of foreign policy’ of UK government”. Representative of the interparliamentary group David Drew, Aegis Trust executive director James Smith, Armenia’s Ambassador to UK Vahe Gabrielyan made speeches. Torosyan Blunts Our Vigilance

The burning discussion on the “RA Law on Radio and Television” was terminated by a very notable announcement of the NA Chairman Tigran Torosyan.

Mr Tororsyan announced that the provision of the draft law prohibiting foreign companies to launch a program on the National Radio and TV had noting to do with the Radio Liberty. He explained that the “Liberty” was not a broadcasting company, since by the RA Law a broadcasting company should have license, while the RL did not have it, thus, the bill did not concern the RL. Law on RFE/RL Is Being Discussed

Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty“They try to silence the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the freedom of speech”, declared Diktor Dallakyan, the NA Deputy. He was also disturbed by the possible aggravating of Armenian-American relations, by the allocated money of the Millennium Challenges and by the predetermination of the results of the presidential elections. Will RFE/RL Be Closed Down?

Today the Armenian MPs gathered to discuss the amendments to the law on Television and Radio and to decide the fortune of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. If the amendments are adopted, RFE/RL, funded by the United States Congress, will not be transmitted on the Public Channel.

NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sent a Note to OSCE Co-Ordinator

On June 27, 2007 the NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note to Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities Bernard Snoy expressing regret that the practical recommendation presented in the report of the OSCE-led Environmental Assessment Mission to fire affected territories along the contact line, prepared as a result of the 10-day monitoring (October, 2006) had not been realised. “OPPOSITION APOLOGIZES”

Today the RA Parliament ratified the 5-year program of the Government by 94 for, 7 against and 9 abstention votes. The “Heritage” party voted against the program, the “Orinats Yerkir party” and Victor Dallakyan abstained from voting. Leo Platvoet Made 25-Minute Speech on the Armenian Elections

Parliamentary AssemblyToday, Leo Platvoet made a 25-minute speech on the Armenian presidential elections at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The Parliamentary elections in Armenia, held on 12 May 2007, were largely held in line with Council of Europe commitments and standards for democratic elections, although shortcomings remain. The Armenian Authorities, as well as other electoral stakeholders, showed the political will to address previous shortcomings and to improve the conduct of these elections, although some issues remain unaddressed, he said. 78 Percent To Vote For Joint Candidate

The opposition should nominate a joint candidate during the presidential election, say 78 per cent of our polling respondents.
