The speed of light is achieved only by light and other forms of electromagnetic radiation, e.g. radio waves, infrared radiation and X rays. The speed of light varies depending on what it is traveling through. Light travels fastest through a vacuum, where its velocity is 299,792,458 m/s (about 300,000 km/s or 186,000 miles per second). This means that when you look at the Moon, you see it as it was about 1.3 seconds ago, and the Sun as it was around 8.3 minutes ago.
