Of all the moons in the Solar System, the one that orbits closest to its planet is the tiny Martian satellite Phobos.Phobos is 5,827 miles (9,378 km) from the center of Mars, which is 3,716 miles (5,981 km) above the Martian surface. Using the surface-to-surface measurement, Phobos is roughly 60 times closer to Mars than the Moon is to Earth.
