Makeup Storage: Fun Cosmetic Organizer Craft Ideas

Here are some unique and crafty ideas and instructions for creating and decorating storage or organizer bags and boxes for your makeup and cosmetic tools.

Some women are born with natural beauty. A smooth complexion is something they will never worry about because they already have one. In fact, they are so blessed they rarely, if ever, choose to wear makeup. On the other hand, there are women who choose to purchase every new beauty product that comes along. Storage of all these beauty items soon becomes a difficult chore for many women. But, there are some fun and unique ways to store makeup. Perhaps you need the ability to organize your makeup for your simple morning makeup routine. Perhaps you are a professional makeup artist and have to organize tons of beauty products. Here are a few fun cosmetic organizer ideas and some ideas to help you decorate them:

Idea Number One:

A great way to tackle the chore of organizing your makeup is to purchase a fishing tackle box. Tackle boxes come in a variety of sizes and have numerous options. Simple grab-and-go tackle boxes are available, as well as heavy-duty tackle boxes which boast excellent durability. Options available in the various models of fishing tackle boxes include sliding drawers, removable drawers and swing-back trays. Most trays and drawers come with the added feature of adjustable dividers, which are great pluses when trying to organize an abundance of makeup products. Some fishing tackle boxes are even available with carrying cases that have shoulder straps.

Decorating Idea:

Stenciling or painting your fishing tackle makeup organizer is a great idea. Stencils can be found in the craft department of your local supercenter or ordered online. In fact, some artists make their own stencils. You’ll want to choose stencils which reflect your personality. For example, if you are a gardener, you may wish to choose stencils with garden designs. If you love butterflies, you’ll enjoy the many butterfly stencils available.

Place your tackle box on top of an old newspaper or towel to protect your tabletop. Decide if you want your design to be all over the tackle box or around the border. Line up your stencil and start painting. You can also utilize a sponge painting technique for painting with stencils. Simply place the sponge in the desired paint color and sponge onto the stencil. After you’ve completed this project, you’ll want to make sure you use a protective spray to help your painting last longer.

Idea Number Two:

Purchase a clear plastic makeup bag with a zipper. You will need to decide on the size of makeup bag that is appropriate for your needs. Plastic makeup bags are great idea for travel. It’s easy to keep them clean by simply swiping them with a wet washcloth. You don’t have to worry about them breaking easily either.

Decorating Idea:

Use puffy craft paints and place some colorful dots on your makeup bag. Choose bright colors for an added bit of fun. Choose specific colors such as red, white, and blue for a patriotic theme.

Place your plastic makeup container on top of an old newspaper or a towel to protect your furniture prior to beginning this project. Simply place dots of the puffy paint randomly on the makeup bag. After the paint dots have completely dried, turn the makeup bag over and repeat this painting procedure. If you wish to use the patriotic theme, you can paint a picture of a flag by painting it with dots. You can personalize your makeup bag this way by simply spelling out your name … in dots.

Idea Number Three:

Purchase a plastic makeup caddy available in the cosmetic department. These can be found in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. You will need to determine what will fit your needs the best. Many of these come with several compartments in which to place your makeup.

Decorating Idea:

Get out your glue gun and have some fun! A cordless glue gun is easier to work with because you don’t have to worry about getting tangled up in the cord. Eyelet lace or ribbon can be glued to the outside edges of your makeup caddy.

Place your makeup caddy on a protected surface before beginning to decorate it. While decorating your makeup caddy, you’ll want to hot glue about one to two inches of the border of your container and then place your ribbon or lace onto the glue. Continue this process until you have ribbon or lace completely around the border. Make some of the ribbon into small bows to be glued to the top of the makeup container.

Additional Decorating Ideas:

Purchase some fun and decorative stickers to place on your makeup organizer.

Place some sequins and/or beads onto ribbon for an added sparkle.

Paint pictures of actual makeup items such as foundation, powder, blush eyelashes or other makeup items on your makeup container.

Paint a face with makeup on it for your makeup organizer.

If you don’t wish to use these ideas, use your own imagination. You’re sure to find a unique style of your own for decorating your cosmetic organizer. You’ll have some creative fun and your makeup will finally be organized. Isn’t having your cosmetics all together in one place much more convenient than having to search all over for your beauty tools?
